Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 434 PM EDT Fri Sep 01 2017 Valid 00Z Sat Sep 02 2017 - 00Z Mon Sep 04 2017 ...Harvey is now a post tropical cyclone... ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Carolinas... ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Southern Mid-Atlantic Coast... ...Temperatures will be 15 to 25 degrees above average over the West Coast... Scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected spread across portions of the Southeast, Tennessee/Ohio Valleys and the Mid-Atlantic regions as Tropical Depression Harvey lifts northeastward. Although Harvey is expected to weaken to a post-tropical system by late this afternoon it will still bring heavy rainfall from northern Alabama/Mississippi to Kentucky through this afternoon... posing an elevated risk for flash flooding across the area... with light to moderate precipitation increasing across the Mid-Atlantic and the Carolinas. A slight risk for severe thunderstorms will be possible across portions of the southern Mid-Atlantic/Appalachians today. Please check the Storm Prediction Center for the latest outlooks on severe weather and WPC's excessive rainfall outlook for flash flooding potential. Noticeably cooler, fall-like temperatures will filter into the Great Lakes, Northeast and portions of the Mid-Atlantic this weekend after a strong cold front passed through. The heat wave across the West will persist through the weekend as an upper-level ridge remains anchored in place. Excessive heat warnings, watches and heat advisories will remain in effect along the West Coast. This hot and mostly dry airmass will keep the risk for wildfires elevated, especially across the Intermountain West and the adjacent High Plains were there are active wildfire complexes.
