Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 431 AM EDT Sat Sep 02 2017 Valid 12Z Sat Sep 02 2017 - 12Z Mon Sep 04 2017 ...Harvey is now a post-tropical cyclone... ...Temperatures will be 15 to 25 degrees above average over the West Coast... Post-tropical cyclone Harvey will continue to weaken as it lifts northeast through the Ohio Valley/Great Lakes region and into southern Quebec this weekend. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop along and ahead of the associated frontal system, bringing precipitation to much of eastern Ohio valley/Appalachians, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Upper-level energy near the Southeast will help generate showers and thunderstorms. An upper-level trough is progged to dig across southern Canada and the northern-tier states over the next few days; which will send a cold front through the Northern High Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to focus over portions of the Upper Mississippi Valley/Midwest. Much of the northern states and into the northern Mid-Atlantic region will have Autumn-like temperatures. Moisture associated with Tropical Storm Lidia; which, will track across the Baja peninsula, will trigger showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southern California and the Desert Southwest this weekend. The heatwave over the West Coast will continue with many locations with maximum temperatures of 15 to 25 degrees warmer than a typical early September day.
