Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 403 PM EDT Sat Sep 02 2017 Valid 00Z Sun Sep 03 2017 - 00Z Tue Sep 05 2017 ...Post-tropical cyclone Harvey dissipates... ...Temperatures will be 15 to 20 degrees above average over parts of the West Coast and Pacific Northwest into parts of the Northern/Central High Plains... ...Moisture from Tropical Storm Lidia will work into the Southwest and Southeastern California... Post-tropical cyclone Harvey will continue to weaken and dissipate over the Ohio Valley by late Saturday night. Harvey will produce rain over parts of the Ohio Valley through Saturday night. Another storm developing along the Mid-Atlantic with some of the energy associated with Harvey, but the lion's share of the energy will come from an upper-level disturbance over the Upper Great Lakes. The associated surface low over the Mid-Atlantic will slowly move northeastward along the Northeast Coast that will move into the Canadian Maritimes by Monday. The system will produce rain over the Mid-Atlantic into the Lower Great Lakes that will move into the Northeast on Sunday and into Eastern Canada by Monday. Any showers and thunderstorms associated with the storm will move off the Southeast/Southern Mid-Atlantic Coast by Saturday evening. An upper-level trough is progged to dig across southern Canada and the northern-tier states over the next few days; which will send a cold front through the Northern High Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to focus over portions of the Upper Mississippi Valley/Midwest. Much of the northern states and into the northern Mid-Atlantic region will have Autumn-like temperatures. Moisture associated with Tropical Storm Lidia; which, will track across the Baja peninsula, will trigger showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southern California and the Desert Southwest this weekend. The heatwave over the West Coast will continue with many locations with maximum temperatures of 15 to 25 degrees warmer than a typical early September day.
