Much of the Eastern U.S. will be cooler over the next couple of days as surface high pressure builds in the wake of cold front tracks east over the Atlantic Ocean. The surface low pressure center associated with this front will continue to lift northeast through New England the Canadian Maritimes through Tuesday. Scattered to widespread rain is forecast for most of the Northeast. The trailing edge of this front will become mostly stationary over northern Florida; which, will keep showers and thunderstorms possible for the coastal areas of the Southeast and central/southern Florida. The upper-level pattern across the central CONUS depicts a split in the flow, where a primary wave/low pressure system spills into the northern/central Plains before lifting through Upper Midwest, Ohio Valley and Great Lakes regions- with a secondary system tracking across south-central Canada and the Hudson Bay region. Scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the front from the Great Lakes region to the central Plains by Monday evening. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted portions of southern Michigan and northern Indiana and Ohio as having a slight risk for severe thunderstorms to develop on Monday. Moisture from Tropical Depression Lidia will work into the Southwest and Southeastern California producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of Southwestern California today and into Monday. Lidia is expected to weaken and become post-tropical by late Monday afternoon. Campbell Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
