Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 352 AM EDT Tue Sep 05 2017 Valid 12Z Tue Sep 05 2017 - 12Z Thu Sep 07 2017 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms for portions of the Northeast... ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Mid-Atlantic... ...Temperatures will be 15 to 20 degrees above average over the Pacific Northwest... A cold front, spanning from the Northeast to the central/southern Plains, will continue to track south and east over the next couple of days. Surface high pressure will build over much of the central and eastern CONUS, resulting in the front sagging into the Gulf of Mexico and stalled along the coast of the Eastern Seaboard. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along and head of the passing front. The best potential for severe weather with this system will be for portions of eastern Pennsylvania to southern New Hampshire this afternoon through early Wednesday morning. The Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk in effect for this area. As the front reaches the East Coast and stalls, the risk for heavy rainfall will increase over the Mid-Atlantic. Additionally, upper-level energy and tropical moisture will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over Florida through Wednesday. Elsewhere, left over moisture from Lidia and daytime heating will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southwest/Southern California and the Southern/Central Rockies through Wednesday. Temperatures along the West Coast will begin to trend cooler over the next few days as a low pressure system approaches over the north Pacific.
