Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 342 PM EDT Thu Sep 28 2017 Valid 00Z Fri Sep 29 2017 - 00Z Sun Oct 01 2017 ...Heavy rain possible will continue across the southern Plains and southern Rockies... ...Scattered showers and thunderstorms expected in southern Florida... Copious amounts of moisture will continue to fuel multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms across much of Texas, New Mexico and southern Colorado. Rainfall amounts and coverage will decrease by Saturday especially in West Texas. However, precipitation will continue through the Rockies through the weekend. Higher elevation snow is expected on Saturday in the higher peaks of Wyoming. A slight risk of flash flooding will be possible along the Big Bend region of Texas through Friday morning--along with marginal risks in West and Central Texas in addition to New Mexico. Due to the rainfall activity across these areas, temperatures will remain up to 15 degrees cooler than normal. An upper level low in the eastern Gulf of Mexico will track very slowly over southern Florida during the next few days. This will increase the coverage of showers and thunderstorms in South Florida and the keys. By Friday night and into Saturday morning, a cold front will sink southward across the state--with rain expanding even in the central portions of the state. A marginal risk of flash flooding will be possible over the next few days as some of these thunderstorms could produce heavy downpours that may lead to flash flooding. A strong cold front will move off the East Coast while sinking farther south in the Southeast and Mexico. This front will bring fall-like, cooler conditions to the eastern half of the U.S. through the weekend. Elsewhere, a Pacific front will move across the Pacific Northwest by Friday and will bring precipitation with it. As the front moves through the Intermountain West, precipitation will spread through these regions--with higher elevation snow in the Northern Rockies especially by the end of the weekend.
