Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 356 PM EDT Fri Sep 29 2017 Valid 00Z Sat Sep 30 2017 - 00Z Mon Oct 02 2017 ...Heavy rain possible across the southern Rockies... ...Showers and thunderstorms will continue across southern Florida... ...Snow possible for portions of the Northern Rockies this weekend... Heavy rain across the southern Plains and southern Rockies will continue throughout Saturday. An abundant amount of moisture streaming across these regions will give way to scattered showers and thunderstorms with rainfall amounts not as heavy as the previous days. The heaviest rainfall activity is expected in the southern Rockies especially on Saturday. By Sunday, showers may linger along the southern Rockies. However, most of the scattered to widespread precipitation in the southern Plains will dissipate. There is a marginal risk for flash flooding through Saturday morning in New Mexico. As a cold front sweeps across the Intermountain West through the weekend, precipitation will occur in the Pacific Northwest on Friday. By Saturday, precipitation will spread throughout the Intermountain West and the Rockies. The front will enter the Plains by Sunday, with precipitation persisting in portions of the Intermountain West. Showers and thunderstorms will also begin to develop across the northern and central Plains by Sunday morning--moving into the Upper Midwest and middle Mississippi Valley during the day. Snow can be expected in the higher elevations of the northern Rockies on Sunday. There is also a marginal risk for flash flooding due to the rainfall activity moving over the northern and central Plains into the Mississippi Valley through Monday morning. Scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms will persist over the weekend across southern Florida due to an upper level low slowly tracking eastward over the state during the next few days. A surface trough will help focus thunderstorm activity as deep tropical moisture is being tapped. This active weather pattern will continue through the short term period.
