Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 334 AM EDT Sat Sep 30 2017 Valid 12Z Sat Sep 30 2017 - 12Z Mon Oct 02 2017 ...Heavy rain possible across the southern Rockies... ...Showers and thunderstorms will continue across southern Florida... ...Snow possible for portions of the Northern Rockies this weekend... A deep layer of moisture streaming into the Southwest and Southern Rockies will continue to produce showers and thunderstorms across the region. The higher amounts are forecast for the higher elevations of the Southern Rockies. Embedded areas of higher rainfall rates may increase the risk for flash flooding. A flash flood watch is in effect for much of northern New Mexico. Periods of heavy rainfall will also be possible this weekend across South Florida and portions of the Gulf Coast as an upper level low slowly tracks eastward over the state. In turn, a surface trough will help focus thunderstorm activity as deep tropical moisture is being tapped. The National Hurricane Center is watching this feature as it has been becoming more favorable for development. Precipitation will spread from the Pacific Northwest, through the Intermountain West and into the Plains and Upper Midwest as a cold front passes through. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop across the the Plains by Sunday morning and moving into the Upper Midwest and middle Mississippi Valley by midday. Higher elevation snow is expected to materialize in the Northern Rockies on Sunday. Campbell Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
