Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 357 AM EDT Sun Oct 01 2017 Valid 12Z Sun Oct 01 2017 - 12Z Tue Oct 03 2017 ...Heavy rain possible for parts of northeastern Florida... ...Snow possible for portions of the Northern and Central Rockies... Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop over Florida and the surrounding waters through Monday as tropical moisture interacts with a quasi-stationary front over the region and upper-level energy passing by. Rainfall rates may be high at times-- which could lead to excessive rainfall and flash flooding conditions, especially for portions of northeast Florida. Further up the East Coast temperatures will remain cooler over the next few days. Highs will generally range from the 70s across the Mid-Atlantic to the 50s and 60s in the Northeast-- with overnight lows in the 30s and 40s. High pressure anchored over the East will keep it dry through into the middle of the week. A low pressure system will exit the Rockies and slowly track through the Northern and Central High Plains over the next few days. The higher elevations of the Northern and Central Rockies will likely have heavy snow, and as temperatures drop and snow levels fall, higher amounts of snow will be possible in the lower elevations as well. Parts of Montana are in a winter storm watch. Strong winds near the central low pressure may lead to the snow to blow and drift. In the warm sector of this system rain with embedded thunderstorms is expected to develop along and ahead of the boundary from the Northern/Central Plains to the Upper Mississippi Valley. The Storm Prediction Center has identified an area with a slight risk for severe weather over Nebraska and Kansas today. Please refer to the convective outlooks for additional information.
