Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 357 AM EDT Tue Oct 03 2017 Valid 12Z Tue Oct 03 2017 - 12Z Thu Oct 05 2017 ...Heavy rain possible across the central U.S... ...Heavy snow expected in the northern Rockies and parts of the central Rockies... ...Showers and thunderstorms will continue along southeast Florida and parts of the Gulf Coast... Much of the central U.S. will have scattered to widespread precipitation through the end of the week. During this time a cold front will track through the Central Plains, Upper Mississippi Valley and the Great Lakes region. Showers and thunderstorms will initiate along this front, spanning from the Great Lakes south to the Southern Plains/Rockies-- there will likely be pockets of higher rainfall amounts which may increase the risk for flash flooding. A marginal risk for severe thunderstorms and excessive rainfall is in effect for eastern New Mexico today-- increasing to a slight risk on Wednesday. Farther north, the heavy snowfall occurring in Montana will taper off this afternoon while snow showers linger in high peaks of Idaho and northern Nevada into Wednesday. Florida will continue to have numerous showers and thunderstorms over the next few days, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Persistent easterly flow will continue bringing deep moisture and unstable air especially across south-central/southeast Florida and the Keys. A marginal risk of flash flooding will be possible possible through the short term period as some of these thunderstorms could produce locally heavy rainfall. The highest daily amounts are forecast for the Miami to the Keys corridor, where 3-day totals are 2 to 4 inches. Campbell Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
