Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 346 AM EDT Sun Oct 15 2017 Valid 12Z Sun Oct 15 2017 - 12Z Tue Oct 17 2017 ...A strong cold front will deliver showers and thunderstorms to the eastern U.S... ...Critical fire weather continues across the West Coast... The strong cold front stretched from the Great Lakes to the southern Plains will continue moving eastward over the short term period. A line of showers and thunderstorms will follow along the boundary. The threat of flash flooding and severe weather diminishes on Sunday, however, as most of the precipitation will be much lighter and moving very quickly with the front. By Monday morning, the front, along with the precipitation, will approach the East Coast in addition to moving through the central Gulf Coast region. As the front moves southward across Florida on Tuesday, showers and thunderstorms will linger in the central and southern portions of the peninsula. Behind the front, cool and dry conditions will settle--bringing fall-like weather to much of the eastern half of the country. An upper level ridge will be centered over the West Coast which will keep this portion of the U.S. very dry and warmer than normal. These ingredients combined with dry, gusty southwesterly winds, critical fire weather conditions will exist especially to southern California on Sunday. By Monday, the upper level ridge will weaken; however, elevated fire weather conditions will be in place in southeastern Wyoming.
