Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 346 AM EDT Mon Oct 16 2017 Valid 12Z Mon Oct 16 2017 - 12Z Wed Oct 18 2017 ...Showers and thunderstorms expected across the Southeast and Florida... ...Autumn arrives across the eastern U.S... A strong cold front will push off the East Coast by Monday afternoon while it continues moving southward across Florida. Showers and thunderstorms will move along with the front--with lingering precipitation along the Southeast coast. Some of this activity could lead to isolated flash flooding. As the front passes, dry conditions will follow. However, the front will slowly move southward across Florida. Easterly flow will bring deep tropical moisture to the state ahead of the front which could deliver heavy rainfall especially along the East Coast on Tuesday and Wednesday. By Thursday, the front will stall adjacent to South Florida which will keep tropical moisture in place while the front acts as a focal point for showers and thunderstorms to continue. Behind the front, much cooler and seasonal conditions will follow from New England to the southern Plains. However, warmer than normal temperatures will be in place across the western and central U.S. early this week. By Wednesday, most of the U.S. with the exception of the Southeast, Florida, and parts of the Pacific Northwest will experience high temperatures 5-7 degrees above normal along with dry conditions.
