Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 351 PM EDT Mon Oct 16 2017 Valid 00Z Tue Oct 17 2017 - 00Z Thu Oct 19 2017 ...Lingering showers and thunderstorms expected across Florida with locally heavy rainfall possible in the Pacific Northwest... ...Well above average temperatures expected to continue across the interior U.S.... A strong cold front which pushed off the East Coast this morning has ushered in a more seasonable airmass with temperatures on Tuesday expected to be near or below normal across much of the Eastern U.S.. The southern portion of this front is forecast to stall across Florida which should keep showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for the next couple of days across the peninsula and for portions of the Southeast and Gulf coasts. Moisture interacting with the boundary may allow for locally heavy rainfall along mainly the eastern coast of Florida. On the other side of the country, a series of frontal systems will keep wet weather in the forecast for portions of the Pacific Northwest with locally enhanced heavy rainfall possible along the favored terrain. Locally heavy snowfall may also be possible in the highest elevations of the northern Cascades. Elsewhere, upper level ridging will keep dry weather and temperatures well above normal through mid-week across the majority of the country. Afternoon high temperatures across the Southwest, Intermountain West, and Plains states could be as much as 10 to 20 degrees above normal for this time of the year.
