Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 357 PM EDT Fri Oct 27 2017 Valid 00Z Sat Oct 28 2017 - 00Z Mon Oct 30 2017 ...Strong cold front to deliver heavy rainfall across the eastern U.S... A very strong cold front will sweep across the eastern U.S. while bringing heavy rainfall and even snow across many regions. The line of showers and thunderstorms currently moving across the Ohio Valley to the Central Gulf Coast will continue moving eastward--with a slight risk of flash flooding across a small portion of the Central Gulf Coast region. As the cold front approaches the Mid-Atlantic, heavy rainfall will enter the Appalachians and Lower Great lakes by Saturday afternoon. By Sunday, most of the heavy rainfall will occur in the Northeast and New England--with a slight chance of flash flooding. This rainfall will linger through most of the day and into Monday morning. In addition, another threat to this system will be strong, gusty winds throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Most of the snowfall activity is expected in the Upper Great Lakes on Saturday; by Sunday, there could be very light snow showers in the higher elevations of the West Virginia mountains. Cool and seasonable temperatures will follow in the wake of this strong cold front--mostly from the Gulf Coast to the Northeast. With a stubborn upper ridge dominating the West Coast, high temperatures will be 10-15 degrees above average through the weekend.
