Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 318 AM EST Thu Nov 09 2017 Valid 12Z Thu Nov 09 2017 - 12Z Sat Nov 11 2017 ...Heavy snow possible over portions of the Upper Great Lakes... ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Pacific Northwest/Northern California... ...Moderate snow for parts of the Northern Intermountain Region/Northern Rockies... Upper-level energy over the Lower Mississippi/Tennessee Valleys will move eastward off the Southeast Coast by Friday morning. The energy will aid in the development of rain over parts of the Southern Mid-Atlantic and the Central/Southern Appalachian into parts of the Tennessee Valley/Western Gulf Coast that will move eastward off the Mid-Atlantic/Southeast Coast by Friday morning. Showers and thunderstorms will also develop over parts of the Eastern Gulf Coast and the Southeast that will move off the Southeast Coast overnight Thursday. In the meantime, a front over the Great Lakes to the Central Plains will move eastward off the Eastern Seaboard on Friday. The system will produce lake effect/lake enhances snow over parts of the Upper Great Lakes that will expand into the Lower Great Lakes by Thursday evening moving into the Northeast overnight Thursday. The snow will end by Friday afternoon over the Northeast. Lake effect snow will develop over the Upper Great Lakes early Friday morning ending by Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, a front over the Pacific Northwest and Northern/Central California will move eastward to the Northern Plains/Great Basin into parts of Southern California by Friday evening. Rain and higher elevation snow will develop over the Pacific Northwest while snow/lower elevation rain develops over the Northern Intermountain Region into parts of the Northern Rockies through Friday evening. Additionally, rain will develop over Northern/Central California that will continue through Friday beginning to wane overnight Friday into Saturday.
