Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 236 PM EST Wed Nov 15 2017 Valid 00Z Thu Nov 16 2017 - 00Z Sat Nov 18 2017 ...High wind, heavy rain and mountain snows to persist across the Pacific Northwest and California... An ongoing heavy precipitation event is forecast to continue through the end of the week before tapering off this weekend. A strong Pacific low pressure system that is making its way inland is spreading heavy rain to coastal areas and heavy snow across the mountain ranges of the Pacific Northwest south to the Sierras/western Great Basin. The high winds over the Pacific Ocean have begun to lessen. Small Craft Advisories are still in effect for the coastal waters of Washington and Oregon; however, Gale Warnings and Storms Warnings remain for the offshore and coastal waters of California. Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings continue for from the Cascades to south-central California and northwest Nevada... with a few covering central and eastern Idaho. Record high minimum temperatures will be possible across parts of the southwest, Great Basin, and central Rockies on Thursday and record high maximum temperatures will be possible across parts of the southern Plains on Friday. Light precipitation will spread east across the Rockies into the adjacent High Plains as a weak cold front passes through the central U.S. The cooler, post-frontal airmass will linger over the central CONUS as high pressure returns.
