Cold air is filtering into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic in the wake the passage of a cold front today. Lingering precipitation over portions of New England is starting to taper off. Temperature swings across the north-central states can be expected; with a warm up on Sunday to near or slightly above seasonal average, followed by another surge of cold air as a front passes through. Temperatures on Monday will between 15 and 30 degrees below average. This system will bring widespread snow, with localized heavy amounts to portions of the Upper Midwest/Upper Great Lakes late Sunday through early Tuesday morning. Warmer and drier conditions will persist across much of the West over the next few days with upper-level ridging anchored in place. A Pacific low pressure system will begin to bring rain to coastal Washington, Oregon and northern California by Monday. Coverage and intensity will increase as the system approaches the West Coast. Areal averages of 0.50 to 1.50 inches forecast for Tuesday, with isolated areas nearing 2 to 2.50 inches across northern California.
