Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 359 AM EDT Thu Mar 22 2018 Valid 12Z Thu Mar 22 2018 - 12Z Sat Mar 24 2018 ...Nor'easter continues to impact the northern Mid-Atlantic and coastal New England with heavy snow... ...Heavy rainfall and flooding likely across portions of central and southern California... ...Heavy snow likely for the higher elevations of Pacific Northwest, California, Intermountain West and the Northern High Plains... Heavy snow continues to blanket parts of the northern Mid-Atlantic and coastal New England as a nor'easter travels northeast toward the Canadian Maritimes. The snow will begin to taper off as the surface low pulls further away from the region... being confined mostly to Maine and finally coming to an end by late tonight. Long duration rain over much of southern and central California will likely lead to areal flooding- possibly resulting in mudslides and debris flows near recent burn scars. WPC has issued a high risk for excessive rainfall through Friday morning. In addition, heavy snow is expected for the Sierra Nevada where snowfall accumulations of 2 to 4 feet are expected with localized amounts up to 5 feet possible! Precipitation will finally taper off along the Sierra Nevada mountains and southern California by Friday morning. Further to the north, coastal rain and heavy mountain snow is forecast for Pacific Northwest and spreading into Great Basin and Intermountain West.
