Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 128 PM EDT Thu Mar 29 2018 Valid 00Z Fri Mar 30 2018 - 00Z Sun Apr 01 2018 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain across the Southeast and Central Gulf Coast today... ..Heavy snow possible across parts of the Upper Midwest... A complex storm over the Lower/Middle Mississippi Valley will move northeastward to the Canadian Maritimes by Friday evening as it slowly strengthens. Showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of the Lower Mississippi Valley, Southeast, and portions of the Appalachians that will move off most of the East Coast by Friday evening. Rain will lift northward into the Lower Great Lakes/Northeast by this evening. Some storms could become severe per guidance from the Storm Prediction Center and could be capable of producing heavy rain near the Mouth of the Mississippi River this afternoon and evening. Meanwhile, upper-level energy over the Northern Rockies will move eastward to the Northern/Central Plains by Thursday evening. The energy will aid in producing snow over parts of the Northern/Central Rockies through Thursday evening. In addition, a front over West-Central Canada will move southward into the Great Lakes and Northern Rockies by Friday evening. The boundary will aid in producing snow over parts of the Upper Midwest Thursday afternoon into Friday evening. Additionally, onshore flow will aid in producing coastal rain over parts of the Pacific Northwest through Friday evening.
