Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 356 AM EDT Fri Mar 30 2018 Valid 12Z Fri Mar 30 2018 - 12Z Sun Apr 01 2018 ..Heavy snow possible across parts of the Upper Midwest... ...Warm temperatures across the East Coast will be short lived as colder conditions come back by the weekend... A cold front will sweep across the East Coast today--bringing with it showers and thunderstorms. Most of the thunderstorms will occur in the Southeast and in parts of Florida; however, these storms are not expected to be severe anymore. High temperatures ahead of the incoming front will be up to 10 degrees above average this time of year. The cold front will exit off the East Coast by late this evening followed by cooler conditions settling back in along the coast. These cooler temperatures will continue into Sunday especially from the Mid-Atlantic to New England. An upper level disturbance will slide over the northern Rockies overnight Friday--bringing higher elevation snow across the northern Rockies and light showers as the Arctic boundary plunges south. By Saturday morning, the upper level disturbance will enter the northern Plains. At the surface, the frontal boundary will continue moving across the northern Plains on Friday evening and intensify overnight. Precipitation will develop along and north of the surface low--with most of the precipitation falling as snow. Heavy snow is expected to begin in the northern Plains by Friday evening and move into the Upper Midwest by early Saturday morning. The surface low will lift north over southeast Canada--with snow falling along the Upper Great Lakes region. To the south, showers will move from the upper/middle Mississippi Valley on Saturday morning and reach the Tennessee Valley and lower Mississippi Valley by Sunday morning.
