Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 PM EDT Sun Apr 01 2018 Valid 00Z Mon Apr 02 2018 - 00Z Wed Apr 04 2018 ...Snow expected for portions of the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast through Monday morning... ...Snow will spread from the Northwest U.S. Sunday night to the Upper Midwest by Tuesday... An upper level disturbance will continue tracking eastward on Sunday night, leading to the possibility of snow in the Ohio Valley region Sunday evening, the northern Mid-Atlantic Sunday night, and into parts of the Northeast by Monday morning. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for the northern Mid-Atlantic region and into New York City. Snow totals are forecast to be 6 to 10 inches for portions of the Central Appalachians, with less elsewhere--the Ohio Valley could see 1 to 4 inches, and the northern Mid-Atlantic is expecting 3 to 6 inches. A potent upper level low will move from the Pacific Northwest Sunday night eastward through the Northern Plains and into the Upper Midwest by Tuesday. In conjunction with the upper level low, a surface low pressure system will strengthen just east of the Rockies on Monday and move eastward on Tuesday. Cold air is in place, so all this will lead to snow for the Cascades and Northern Rockies on Sunday night and spreading into the Northern Plains by Monday morning. Higher elevations could see 8 to 12 inches of snow, the Northern High Plains could see 6 to 8 inches, and portions of the Dakotas could see 2 to 6 inches. Chances for snow will continue eastward into the Upper Midwest on Monday night and Tuesday. 6 to 10 inches of snow is expected for portions of the Upper Midwest through Tuesday evening. Farther south, a front lingering across the Southern Plains and Tennessee Valley on Sunday night and Monday will lead to continued chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms in those areas. This front will lift northward on Monday night and Tuesday as the surface low moves eastward. Rain and thunderstorms will become more widespread at that point, from the Southern Plains into the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys and Southeast. A few strong thunderstorms are possible in the Ohio Valley on Monday night. Tate Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
