Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 358 AM EDT Mon Apr 9 2018 Valid 12Z Mon Apr 9 2018 - 12Z Wed Apr 11 2018 ...Rain expected for the Southeast U.S. and the Pacific Northwest, and relatively uneventful elsewhere across the nation... A nearly stationary frontal boundary near the Gulf Coast will lead to unsettled weather across the southeast part of the nation on Monday, with a wave of low pressure developing off the South Carolina coast by Monday night. The best prospects for heavy rain will be over the northern Florida Peninsula where multiple rounds of heavy showers and storm could result in 1 to locally 3 inches of rainfall, and additional rain likely going into Tuesday. Some light snow is likely from the Great Lakes to the interior northeast U.S., but nothing significant is currently anticipated. More rain is forecast to reach the West Coast from San Francisco and points northward beginning Monday night as a Pacific cold front approaches the region, with snow only for the highest mountain locations. Another round of rainfall is likely by Wednesday as a second storm system begins affecting the area. Valley rain and mountain snow showers are expected for interior portions of the Great Basin and northern Rockies. Much of the central U.S. should be dry from Monday afternoon to Wednesday morning as a cold Canadian surface high settles southward and provides more below normal temperatures for this time of year. The opposite will hold true for the Desert Southwest, with highs well into the 90s and perhaps close to 100 degrees for the beginning of the work week. D.
