Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 331 AM EDT Fri May 4 2018 Valid 12Z Fri May 4 2018 - 12Z Sun May 6 2018 ...Warm across much of the nation with showers and storms reaching the East Coast... The frontal boundary that has been the focus for the recent severe weather across the Plains and Midwest states is forecast to continue tracking eastward across the Ohio Valley and western Gulf Coast region on Friday. This will lead to an axis of moderate to locally heavy rainfall from central Texas to the central Appalachians, with the best potential for excessive rainfall over parts of Texas on Friday where deep moisture from the western Gulf of Mexico intercepts the frontal boundary. Lighter rain is likely to fall across portions of the northern Rockies, northern plains, and Upper Midwest. The potential also exists for some severe storms across the Northeast U.S. on Friday where the combination of instability and wind shear will be greatest, and the Storm Prediction Center has additional details on that. The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast will have another day of high temperatures on the order of 15 to 25 degrees above average on Friday, with some additional record highs possible. The cold front passing through will bring temperatures down closer to average for early May, into the 70s and lower 80s for highs in the Mid-Atlantic on Saturday. Elsewhere, temperatures of 10 to 20 degrees above average are likely for the Intermountain West, northern plains, and Upper Midwest through Saturday. The hottest readings are expected for the Desert Southwest, where triple digit high temperatures are likely to be observed for this weekend. D.
