Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 349 AM EDT Mon May 7 2018 Valid 12Z Mon May 7 2018 - 12Z Wed May 9 2018 ...A quieter weather pattern to begin the work week across most of the nation... After an unsettled weekend across much of the eastern U.S., drier weather is arriving to begin the work week with the frontal zone moving offshore and surface high pressure building into the region. Temperatures are expected to be near normal through Wednesday before warmer weather arrives by the end of the week. Across the north-central U.S., a surface low tracking eastward across South Dakota and into Minnesota will support scattered showers and storms, with rainfall amounts approaching an inch for the eastern Dakotas and western Minnesota. Across the West, scattered showers and a few storms are expected from the Pacific Northwest to the northern Intermountain West/Rockies by Tuesday night and into Wednesday as a cold front moves in from the eastern Pacific. Locally enhanced heavier rainfall is possible for the windward terrain. Farther to the south over the Desert Southwest, a heat wave will be in progress underneath upper level ridging, with temperatures near or slightly above 100 degrees for the lower elevations of Arizona, southern Nevada, and eastern California.
