Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 355 PM EDT Fri May 18 2018 Valid 00Z Sat May 19 2018 - 00Z Mon May 21 2018 ...Gradual abatement of rainfall for the East Coast and stormy weather for parts of the Plains... The stubborn weather pattern with the persistent rain and thunderstorm activity over the southeast U.S. into the Mid-Atlantic region is forecast to continue for another day before a gradual change ensues on Saturday. Additional heavy rainfall capable of producing flooding will be possible across sections of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and the Delmarva region through Saturday afternoon. Going into Sunday, the activity is forecast to become more scattered in nature as the stationary front lifts north and there is less forcing for ascent. Further to the west, a second area of upper-level energy and its associated cold front will aid in the development of showers and thunderstorms over parts of the western High Plains into parts of the Upper Midwest that will continue over parts of the region going into the weekend. There is the potential for some of these storms to become severe at times. In addition, diurnal heating will aid in producing showers and storms over parts of the central and southern plains over the weekend.
