Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 358 PM EDT Tue May 22 2018 Valid 00Z Wed May 23 2018 - 00Z Fri May 25 2018 ...Scattered storms will continue across the Deep South through the middle of the week... ...Showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain possible, should develop near a warm front as it lifts through the central/northern Plains and Mississippi Valley... Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across much of the Eastern U.S. as anomalous moisture streams northward from the tropics and interacts with a cold front moving through the Northeast. Some of the storms may contain locally heavy rainfall and severe weather. SPC has parts of the Mid-Atlantic and the Ohio Valley in a slight risk for this afternoon and evening, so check those products for more information. Rain should exit the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast by Wednesday morning following the passage of the cold front but showers and storms may persist through Mid-week across the Deep South and back into the lower Mississippi Valley as the southern portion of the cold front drops slowly southward through the Tennessee Valley. Expect mainly diurnally driven showers and storms into Wednesday across much of the Intermountain West underneath broad troughing in the upper levels. A wave of energy aloft, combined with a surface low/warm front and abundant moisture will help trigger storms ahead of the warm front as it lifts through the central/northern Plains and into the Mississippi Valley tonight and into Wednesday. Some storms may contain heavy rainfall, especially near the surface low itself and along the frontal boundary. A marginal to slight risk for excessive rainfall/flash flooding is being monitored across much of the region today. Santorelli Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
