Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 356 AM EDT Mon Jun 11 2018 Valid 12Z Mon Jun 11 2018 - 12Z Wed Jun 13 2018 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Northern Plains and Western Ohio Valley... ...Heavy rain and flash flooding possible over parts of the Upper Midwest, Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic region... ...Rain/snow possible over the highest elevations of the Cascades and Northern Rockies... Strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain will move from the Upper Midwest toward the Mid-Atlantic over the next couple of days as a slow moving frontal system tracks across the central U.S. The convection that will occur over the Central and Southern Plains will be more conducive for becoming severe. The Storm Prediction Center has slight risks in effect for Monday and Tuesday across this region. Abundant moisture streaming northward of the slow moving front will set up a favorable environment for heavy rain. Amounts of 1 to 3 inches of rain is forecast along portions of the front over the Midwest and southern Ohio Valley. The Weather Prediction Center has slight risks for excessive rainfall in effect. These areas will have an increased threat of flooding. Across the South, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and upper-level impulses will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Western/Central Gulf Coast and Florida through Tuesday. Onshore flow streaming inland over the Pacific Northwest into parts of the Northern Rockies/Northern High Plains will shut off by this evening. But until then, rain will develop over the Northwest with rain/snow over the highest elevations of the Cascades and the northern Intermountain Region.
