Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 359 PM EDT Tue Jun 26 2018 Valid 00Z Wed Jun 27 2018 - 00Z Fri Jun 29 2018 ...Rain and thunderstorms for the Plains to East Coast with severe weather and flash flooding possible... ...Summerlike temperatures persist for the Great Basin, Southwest, Plains, and Southeast... A low pressure system will continue moving eastward across the Midwest through Wednesday and into the Lower Great Lakes region on Wednesday night and Thursday. Along and south of its associated cold front, thunderstorms are likely. An enhanced risk of severe weather is in place for portions of Kansas and Missouri, with slight risks of severe weather eastward into portions of the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys through Tuesday night. Additionally, there is a slight risk of flash flooding for those areas. A stationary front lingering along the Carolina coast will cause some heavy rain and more flash flooding possibilities there. As the low and fronts move east, rain chances will increase for the Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic on Wednesday, moving into the Northeast by Wednesday night. Rain of 1 to 2 inches is possible, and there is a slight risk of flash flooding on Wednesday for the Central Appalachians. Another front moves through the Northern Plains on Tuesday night, so scattered thunderstorms are possible, which could be severe. Rain and thunderstorms will be on the increase for the Northern Rockies to Northern Plains on Thursday as a surface low strengthens ahead of an upper-level trough. Hot temperatures will remain for much of the West, the Central and Southern Plains, and spreading into the Middle and Lower Mississippi Valley and Southeast through Thursday. A few record highs are possible in the Central High Plains by Thursday. The rain and clouds will help hold temperatures down below average in the Mid-Atlantic on Wednesday, and the Northeast is forecast to see below average temperatures on Thursday.
