Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 341 AM EDT Tue Jul 17 2018 Valid 12Z Tue Jul 17 2018 - 12Z Thu Jul 19 2018 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of New England... ...Heavy rain possible over parts of Southern New England, Central/Eastern Gulf Coast, and parts of the Middle/Lower Missouri Valley... A front extending from the Lower Great Lakes across the Central Appalachians and the Tennessee Valley into the Southern Plains will move eastward off the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Coast by Wednesday morning while extending westward from the Carolinas into the Lower Mississippi Valley then northwestward into the Central Plains by Wednesday evening. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the boundary from the Northeast/Lower Great Lakes to the Tennessee Valley into the Central Plains that will move eastward off the Northeast/Northern Mid-Atlantic Coast by Wednesday afternoon. The showers and thunderstorms will continue over the Southern Mid-Atlantic Coast into the Central Gulf Coast through Thursday morning. Additionally, tropical moisture over the Southeast into the Lower Mississippi Valley/Southern Plains and daytime heating will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over the region through Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, upper-level energy over the Northern Intermountain Region will move eastward to the Northern Plains by Wednesday evening. The energy will produce showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Northern Rockies that will move into the Northern High Plains and expand southeastward into the Central Plains overnight Tuesday. The showers and thunderstorms will continue to move eastward into Northern/Central Plains and Middle Mississippi Valley by Wednesday evening. In addition, monsoonal moisture and daytime heating will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southwest/Great Basin and the Central/Southern Rockies through Wednesday evening. The showers and thunderstorms will have the greatest areal coverage during the late afternoon into the late evening on Tuesday and Wednesday.
