Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 342 AM EDT Thu Oct 4 2018 Valid 12Z Thu Oct 4 2018 - 12Z Sat Oct 6 2018 ...Warm weather continues for the southern U.S. whilst colder temperatures affect the north-central states... A rapidly deepening surface low will continue lifting north across Ontario and Quebec on Thursday as it drags a cold front southward across the Ohio Valley and the Northeast U.S. through the end of the week, and reaching as far south as the Mid-Atlantic region. Showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rainfall possible, are possible along the trailing cold front as it progresses across the Ohio Valley on Thursday and into the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic on Friday. Behind this front, a much colder Canadian surface high builds in across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest, resulting in temperatures on the order of 10 to 20 degrees below normal for this time of year. Across the southern tier states and the Carolinas, it will continue feeling like late summer with highs in the 85 to 90 degree range and plenty of humidity. Across the western U.S., a developing storm system over the central and northern Rockies is expected to bring widespread valley showers and mountain snow through early Friday. Once this surface low and front emerges over the plains, a corridor of heavy showers and storms is forecast to develop from Kansas to Wisconsin with the potential for 1 to 3 inches of rainfall by Saturday morning. Some strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible as well. A Pacific storm system affecting western Washington and Oregon on Friday is also expected to result in enhanced precipitation for that region.
