Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 240 AM EST Mon Dec 03 2018 Valid 12Z Mon Dec 03 2018 - 12Z Wed Dec 05 2018 ...Heavy rainfall possible across northern Florida... ...Rain and mountain snows return to California by late Tuesday... The tail end of a cold front exiting the East Coast this morning will drop slowly southward through Florida the next few days. This will continue the threat for showers and thunderstorms across the Sunshine state, with locally heavy rainfall and a marginal risk for flash flooding possible on Monday mainly across the northern part of the peninsula. Lingering widely scattered precipitation may continue on the backside of this system across the lower Great Lakes and Appalachians as well, with light snow accumulations possible in favorable downwind locations of Lakes Erie and Ontario. Out West, another system approaching the west coast on Tuesday will gradually increase the threat for rain across parts of coastal California and snow in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The rest of the country will be under the influence of surface high pressure through the short range period which will keep precipitation chances low and temperatures below normal. Initially across the Eastern U.S., temperatures could be 10 to 15 degrees above normal on Monday, but will drop to below normal by Tuesday as colder air over the Central U.S. shifts eastward. Farther west, temperatures from the Great Basin, to the Central Plains, and into the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys could be as much as 10 to 20 degrees below normal.
