Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 300 PM EST Thu Feb 28 2019 Valid 00Z Fri Mar 01 2019 - 00Z Sun Mar 03 2019 ...Light to moderate snow will push through the Mid-Atlantic and Southern New England into early Friday... ...Much below normal temperatures for Montana into the Northern Plains along with snow into the Upper Midwest... ...Another system will bring rain and snow to California Saturday... A frontal boundary in the Southeast tonight will bring some light snow on its north side to the Mid-Atlantic and into parts of the Northeast. Showers and light rain for the Carolinas southward will exit the coast as the front stalls across Georgia. Temperatures will be below normal for most areas north of the this front--generally I-40 or I-20 northward back to about Dallas. This front will hold back much colder air to the north across Montana Friday but that will surge southward and eastward Saturday as temperatures fall to well below zero across Montana where some record lows may be approached/broken for both overnight lows and daytime highs (still likely to stay below zero). Some of these values may be near monthly cold records for March. Temperatures south of the the front across AZ/NM and west Texas will be above normal by several degrees--generally in the 60s/70s but 80s along the Mexican border and southern Florida where record highs may be possible. On Saturday, a system will come into California with increasing rain and mountain snow. Rainfall will be locally modest--one half to one inch-- across the coastal ranges into the Transverse Range outside Los Angeles with lesser amounts in the inland valley. The Sierra Nevada will see another round of locally heavy snow on the order of 1 to 2 feet with strong/gusty winds as well. Travel could be very difficult to impossible in some mountain passes above about 6000-7000 feet. Fracasso Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
