Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 347 AM EDT Sat Mar 16 2019 Valid 12Z Sat Mar 16 2019 - 12Z Mon Mar 18 2019 ...Major river flooding will continue across parts of the Mississippi and Missouri River Basins... ...Quiet weather for much of the CONUS this weekend... Moderate to major and historic river flooding is expected to continue across parts of the Mississippi and Missouri River Basins through the weekend as a result of heavy rainfall earlier this week falling on frozen ground and a deep snow pack leading to intense and quick melting. Flood warnings and advisories remain in effect, mainly across parts of the eastern Nebraska, Iowa, and southern Wisconsin. Sensible weather wise, daily chances for showers and thunderstorms are likely across Florida near a lingering frontal boundary, while lake effect snow showers with mainly light accumulations are possible across the Great Lakes. Elsewhere, the weather should be rather quiet as surface high pressure dominates the forecast. With the exception of the West Coast, temperatures across much of the country look to be near or below normal with the greatest departures expected across the Southern Plains where afternoon highs could be 15 to 25 degrees below normal.
