Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 351 PM EDT Tue Mar 19 2019 Valid 00Z Wed Mar 20 2019 - 00Z Fri Mar 22 2019 ...Major to historic river flooding will continue across parts of the Mississippi and Missouri River Basins... ...Coastal storm to bring unsettled weather to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast by Thursday... Major to historic and catastrophic flooding will continue across parts of the Missouri and Mississippi River Basins due to rapid snowmelt as a result of heavy rainfall last week. A round of light rain showers moving through Tuesday evening may only exacerbate flooding across the region as well. Flood warnings and advisories remain in effect, mainly focused across parts of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. Areal flooding is also a concern across parts of the Northwest and Northern Rockies/High Plains as well, as warm temperatures lead to accelerated snowmelt and the potential for ice jams. A front lingering across southern Florida will continue to produce showers and thunderstorms through late Tuesday night. In the central states, a couple of weak systems may bring mainly light rain (with snow possible to the north) from the Central Plains Tuesday night, into the Mississippi Valley, Great Lakes, and Ohio Valley Wednesday into Thursday. At the same time a cold front moving into California and the Southwest Wednesday and Thursday will bring increased chances for rain and mountain snows to California, the Central Great Basin, and into the Southwest/Four Corners region. By Thursday morning, a low pressure system will develop along the North Carolina coast and swing moisture into the Mid-Atlantic states. This system will track along the East Coast and lead to moderate rain across the Northeast by Thursday night. Temperatures east of the Rockies should be mostly near or below normal for this time of the year with the greatest departures from normal across parts of west Texas, the High Plains, and Florida/the Southeast.
