Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 257 AM EDT Sun Mar 24 2019 Valid 12Z Sun Mar 24 2019 - 12Z Tue Mar 26 2019 ...Showers and thunderstorms from the Plains to the Southeast and rain/snow returns to the West Coast... A low pressure system currently over the central plains will continue tracking eastward and produce showers and thunderstorms from the Gulf Coast to the Ohio Valley and then to the Mid Atlantic by Monday. Some severe storms will be possible from northeast Texas to southern Missouri on Sunday as moisture combines with wind shear aloft. Parts of the Deep South may have strong to severe storms on Monday although not quite as widespread. Most locations affected should have under a half inch of rainfall through early Tuesday, except locally over an inch where organized thunderstorm activity develops. Across the western U.S., a Pacific cold front working its way inland will usher in a plume of deep moisture mainly over northern California. Heavy snow is likely for the northern Sierra Nevada and the Siskiyou Mountains, and moderate to heavy rain for the valley locations and near the coast. Lighter precipitation is expected across Oregon and Washington. Temperatures are expected to be mild to warm across the southern tier of the nation on Sunday with highs in the 70s and 80s from Texas to Florida, and 60s extending northward across the Mid-Atlantic region, followed by slightly cooler weather by Monday. It will remain quite chilly from the northern plains to northern New England as a large Canadian surface high governs the weather pattern. D.
