Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 352 AM EDT Wed Mar 27 2019 Valid 12Z Wed Mar 27 2019 - 12Z Fri Mar 29 2019 ...Active weather pattern across the West and relatively quiet across much of the southern tier states... The weather pattern will be impactful across the western third of the nation as a Pacific cold front reaches California by Wednesday morning and then tracks inland across the Intermountain West through Thursday. The result will be moderate to heavy rain for the lower elevations of central and northern California, and heavy snow for the Sierra Nevada and northern Rockies. There is a marginal risk for flooding across parts of California as this storm system passes through the region. Much of the southern U.S. will be relatively uneventful weatherwise through the middle of this week as a large surface high governs the overall weather pattern. The front and surface low that produced the widespread rainfall across the Southeast U.S. earlier in the week has exited the East Coast with the exception of the Florida Peninsula, where scattered showers are expected near the East Coast region on Wednesday. The next chance of rain returns to the Midwest and Great Lakes region early Thursday as a cold front approaches these areas. D.
