Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 351 AM EDT Sun Mar 31 2019 Valid 12Z Sun Mar 31 2019 - 12Z Tue Apr 02 2019 ...Rain showers for the Eastern Seaboard on Sunday, with snow in the Lower Great Lakes region... ...Precipitation possible in the western U.S. to Rockies with a few weather systems... ...Much cooler in the eastern U.S., while the West Coast remains warm... A cold front is forecast to continue moving eastward through the Eastern Seaboard on Sunday, with rain showers and a few thunderstorms expected along it. In the cold air behind the front, the Lower Great Lakes region and into northern New England could see some snow of generally 1 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts. Rain showers are expected to remain along the Gulf Coast through the beginning of the week, and particularly increasing in Florida by Monday and Tuesday as a surface low develops. In the Four Corners region and into the Southern High Plains, rain and snow are possible through Sunday night as upper-level energy moves through. Snow of 2 to 6 inches is forecast in the higher elevations of the Central/Southern Rockies. Farther north, a surface low and a frontal boundary will lead to rain and light snow showers beginning by Sunday evening in the Northern High Plains, and bumping a bit southward on Monday. A stronger low will approach the West Coast late Sunday and into Monday, and moisture will increase with it. Showers will spread into the Pacific Northwest by Sunday night and become more widespread on Monday across the Intermountain West, with higher elevation snow into the Rockies. After a warm Saturday, the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys will be much cooler today behind the cold front. These areas and back into the Lower Mississippi Valley and Southern Plains are expecting high temperatures of 15 to 25 degrees below average, and record low maximum temperatures could be set especially across Texas. Freeze Warnings and Watches are in effect from the Southern Plains eastward into the Tennessee/Lower Ohio Valleys. On the other hand, a few record high minimum temperatures could be set in the Northeast this morning ahead of the front, but temperatures will be much cooler on Monday. The West Coast is expecting high temperatures about 10 degrees above average for the beginning of the week. Tate Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
