The strong storm system which dropped upwards of 2 feet of snow over parts of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest will exit into southern Ontario this evening. Light snow showers will linger into early Saturday morning. Little to no additional accumulation will occur overnight. Flood warnings and advisories are in effect for eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota due to melting snow. High temperatures over the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest will top out in the low to mid-40s, while lows bottom out in the low to mid-20s this weekend as high pressure moves into the area. A low pressure system will develop over western Texas tonight, and begin tracking east toward the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast this weekend. This system will bring moderate to heavy rain to much of the eastern half of the lower 48. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight to Moderate Risk of severe thunderstorms from eastern Texas through the Lower Mississippi Valley on Saturday. Also, a Slight to Enhanced Risk of severe thunderstorms was issued for much of the Southeast up through the Tennessee/Ohio Valleys and Mid-Atlantic on Sunday. A Slight to Moderate Risk of Flash Flooding is in effect for the ArkLaTex and Lower to Middle Mississippi Valleys on Saturday as rainfall totals are forecasted to range between 1 to 2.5 inches across the Southern Plains and Lower to Middle Mississippi/Tennessee/Ohio Valleys. Meanwhile, 0.5 to 1.25 inches of rain are expected to fall for much of the Mid-Atlantic through Sunday. A new storm system will enter the Pacific Northwest and Great Basin/Intermountain West Saturday morning accompanied by rain for the lower elevations and snow for higher altitudes. Snowfall accumulations of up to a foot in the Sierra, and 1.5 feet in the higher elevations of the Rockies are expected through Monday.
