...Unsettled weather out West as next storm system enters lower 48 with potentially active weather across the central and southern U.S. for Wednesday... ...There is a Slight to Enhanced Risk of severe thunderstorms over much of the mid-section of the United States on Wednesday... A red flag warning is currently in effect for eastern/northeastern New Mexico. A strong storm system, currently moving across northern Maine, will depart into New Brunswick, Canada this evening. Low temperatures will subsequently drop into the 30s and 40s along the eastern seaboard tonight. Meanwhile, a new low pressure system will enter the lower 48 from the Pacific Northwest tonight bringing rain and up to 8 inches of snow to the Sierra. This storm system will traverse the Intermountain West on Tuesday with continued light to locally moderate mountain snow for the higher elevations of Utah, Wyoming and Colorado. Upper level energy over the Southwest will jumpstart the development of a surface low over the foothills of the Rockies Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. This low pressure system will bring up to an inch of rain to the Northern Plains and Great Lakes through Wednesday. A dry line will also develop south of the surface low over the Panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas and eventually into Mexico and propagate eastward throughout the day Wednesday.The Storm Prediction Center issued a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms across much of the Southern Plains and Mid South, while an Enhanced Risk of severe thunderstorms is in effect for northeastern Texas, southeastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas on Wednesday as up to an inch of rain is expected to fall over the Arklatex region for this time period.
