Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 403 AM EDT Sun Apr 21 2019 Valid 12Z Sun Apr 21 2019 - 12Z Tue Apr 23 2019 ...Well above average temperatures likely across the middle part of the country on Sunday while a cold front to the west brings rain and some mountain snows... ...Strong to severe thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall possible across parts of the Southern Plains, with moderate to heavy rain also likely across the Upper Midwest on Monday... The same system responsible for heavy rainfall and severe weather the past few days will continue to bring mainly showery and scattered activity to the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast today as the parent upper level low is slow to depart. A surface low lifting northward off the coast on Monday may bring a period of moderate to locally heavy rains to portions of eastern New England. Temperatures on Sunday will remain cooler than normal from the Mid-Atlantic southward, but should warm again to near or slightly above average on Monday. The middle of the country (from the Southern Plains to the Upper Midwest) will be in between systems on Sunday, with afternoon highs in the upper 70s to upper 80s likely which is as much as 20 degrees above normal. The warm temperatures shift eastward on Monday into the Ohio valley and Mississippi Valley. To the west, a cold front moving through the Intermountain West/Rockies today will bring mainly light rain and much cooler temperatures. Temperatures Sunday into Monday from Wyoming to the High Plains could be 10 to 20 degrees below normal which would support the potential for several inches of snow in the highest elevations. The front drops into the Southern Plains by Monday, increasing the threat for locally heavy rainfall and strong to severe thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center highlights part of the Texas Panhandle into western Oklahoma within a marginal to slight risk on Monday. To the north, a stationary boundary settling across the Upper Midwest/Great Lakes may provide focus for locally heavy to excessive rainfall as well on Monday.
