Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 334 PM EDT Fri May 03 2019 Valid 00Z Sat May 04 2019 - 00Z Mon May 06 2019 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Southern Plains... ...There is a slight risk of excessive rainfall over parts of the Southern Plains into the Lower Mississippi Valley... Heavy rain possible over parts of the Northern Mid-Atlantic and Lower Mississippi Valley... A slow moving front extending from the Northern Mid-Atlantic southwestward to the Southern Plains will move eastward to Mid-Atlantic southwestward to the Central Gulf Coast by Sunday. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the boundary from parts of Northern Mid-Atlantic to the Southern Plains that will move southeastward to the Southern Mid-Atlantic to the Southeast by Sunday. Rain will also develop over parts of the Northeast a long the front that will slowly taper off by Saturday evening. Meanwhile, another front over the Northern High Plains will move southeastward to the Great Lakes to the Central Plains then banked up against the Central/Northern Rockies by Sunday. The boundary will also aid in producing rain over parts of the Northern Rockies into the Northern Plains that will move into parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley on Saturday evening. Overnight Saturday, the rain will move into parts of the Upper Great Lakes while extending into the Northern Plains. Saturday evening into Sunday, the rain over the Northern High Plains behind the front will change over to snow continuing into Sunday. Rain will also develop along a decaying front over Upper Mississippi Valley into the Central Plains, on Friday evening, that will slowly dissipate by Saturday afternoon. In addition, weak upper-level energy over the Central High Plains will move to the Middle Mississippi Valley by Sunday. The energy will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Central Plains into the Central Rockies on Saturday evening that will move onto the Central/Southern Plains on Sunday.
