Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 344 PM EDT Sun May 12 2019 Valid 00Z Mon May 13 2019 - 00Z Wed May 15 2019 ...Severe thunderstorms possible from the Southeast to the Southern Mid-Atlantic through tonight... ...Flash flooding and severe weather possible through Monday across parts of the Southern High Plains... ...Much above normal temperatures across the Northwest will shift east as unsettled conditions approach the coast by Tuesday... A slow moving frontal boundary will continue to provide support for showers and thunderstorms across much of the Eastern U.S. tonight and into Monday. Locally heavy rainfall is possible and thunderstorms could be strong to severe across the Southeast into the Mid-Atlantic this evening, and SPC has highlighted this region within a slight risk. Another system approaching from the west and a surface low lifting north off the Mid-Atlantic coast will spread additional showers and storms into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Monday and Tuesday. Much below normal temperatures from the Midwest to the Northeast will continue through the short range period, with daytime highs as much as 10 to 20+ degrees below average expected. Another upper level system moving from the Southwest to the Southern Plains will allow for showers and storms to expand eastward from the High Plains into western Texas. Locally heavy to excessive rainfall and strong to severe thunderstorms are possible through Monday and both WPC and SPC have slight risks tonight and Monday, respectively. This system will keep temperatures cool Monday and into Tuesday as well across southern New Mexico and west Texas with anomalies generally -10 to -20 degrees possible. Elsewhere, weak energy moving through aloft will bring generally light and scattered showers and thunderstorms to parts of the Northern/Central Plains into the northern Mississippi Valley by Tuesday. Out west, much above normal temperatures will shift from the Northwest into the Rockies and Northern/Central Plains underneath strong upper level ridging. A cold front approaching the West Coast may bring a period of rain to the Pacific Northwest and parts of Northern California by Tuesday.
