Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 234 AM EDT Thu May 30 2019 Valid 12Z Thu May 30 2019 - 12Z Sat Jun 01 2019 ...Weather pattern beginning to slowly change by the end of the week... The persistent unsettled weather pattern that has been in place across the continental U.S. over the past week is beginning to abate going into Thursday and beyond. The large scale trough and upper low currently that was anchored over the Intermountain West and Rockies will gradually weaken by Friday morning as the shortwave energy lifts out across the Plains. The stubborn upper level ridge that has produced record high temperatures across the Southeast U.S. will begin to get suppressed to the south over the northern Gulf of Mexico as the flow pattern gradually becomes a bit more zonal by Friday. Although changes are on the forecast horizon, there will still be some heavy rain across portions of the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic region on Thursday ahead of the cold front, and also across central and southern Texas. Some severe storms will be possible across these same general areas as well. A drier weather pattern will make a welcomed return to much of the central U.S. after a spell of extremely stormy weather. Temperatures will start moderating across much of the Intermountain West and the Rockies through Friday as the upper level trough lifts out. Across the Deep South and extending to the Mid-Atlantic region, it will continue to feel like the middle of summer with widespread 90s expected on Thursday, and then slightly cooler by Friday as the front makes farther progress southward.
