Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 349 AM EDT Mon Jun 03 2019 Valid 12Z Mon Jun 03 2019 - 12Z Wed Jun 05 2019 ...Severe weather and heavy to excessive rain threats continue Monday and Tuesday across parts of the Central and Southern U.S.... ...Much above normal temperatures likely across the Northern Plains... ...Potentially heavy rainfall will begin Tuesday across parts of south Texas... An upper level low parked over the Southwest will allow for another day of potentially severe weather and heavy rainfall across the Southern and Central High Plains. Moisture streaming north ahead of the upper system will intersect a slow moving warm front with flash flooding a concern as well across parts of north Texas into Oklahoma and far southern Kansas on Monday. The heavy rain and severe weather threat will shift with the front into the middle Mississippi Valley on Tuesday, while continuing across parts of the Southern High Plains. Both SPC and WPC highlight these regions within slight risks for severe thunderstorms and flash flooding, respectively. See the outlooks from these centers for more information. Elsewhere, diurnally driven showers and thunderstorms will continue on Monday across parts of the central Great Basin and Central/Southern Rockies. Well above normal temperatures (departures +10 to +20 degrees) will persist across much of the Northern Plains with daytime highs in the mid 80s to low 90s possible. The Great Lakes to the Northeast should stay cool and dry Monday and Tuesday under the influence of surface high pressure. Tropical moisture from the western Gulf of Mexico may begin impacting parts of south Texas on Tuesday. This moisture will spread north and eastward beyond the short range period, with heavy to excessive rainfall a concern especially across regions with current and ongoing moderate to major flooding.
