Severe weather and heavy rainfall threats exist this evening across parts of the central U.S. as an upper level low over the Southwest begins to shift eastward on Wednesday. Areas of severe weather and excessive rainfall are possible this evening in the Middle and Upper Mississippi Valley, Southern High Plains, and in the Southeast. The severe threat shifts into parts of the lower Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic on Wednesday as a system crosses the Great Lakes. Low pressure in the western Gulf of Mexico will bring a swath of moisture into the western Gulf Coast states. Rainfall of 4 to 8 inches is possible in parts of southeast Texas, including near Houston through Friday afternoon. WPC has highlighted this area with a moderate risk for flash flooding on Wednesday. Well above normal temperatures (departures +10 to +20 degrees) will persist Wednesday across parts of California, the Northwest and Northern Plains with daytime highs in the mid-80s to near 90 expected. Temperatures well into the 90s are forecast across the Central Valley of California, with some locations reaching the 100 degree mark. A cold front will deliver relief for the Pacific Northwest Wednesday into Thursday. In the East, the Canadian sourced high pressure that brought cool and dry conditions moves off the Mid-Atlantic Coast Tuesday, with more summer-like weather returning by Wednesday.
