Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 PM EDT Wed Jun 05 2019 Valid 00Z Thu Jun 06 2019 - 00Z Sat Jun 08 2019 ...Multi-day heavy rain event from the western/central Gulf Coast into the Southeast with Moderate to High risks of flash flooding through Friday... ...Severe weather threats for the Ohio Valley/Mid-Atlantic/Great Plains through this evening, shifting to Texas and portions of the Great Basin and Northern Rockies on Thursday... A slow moving upper level system currently over the southern High Plains and tropical moisture in place from the coast of Texas to the central Gulf Coast has already been responsible for several inches of rain from the middle to upper Texas coast over the past 24 hours. Deep, tropical moisture will continue to translate eastward over the next one to two days as the upper low advances toward the Lower Mississippi Valley, shifting the threat for heavy rain eastward to the central Gulf Coast where a Moderate Risk of flash flooding is place for Thursday and Friday, with a Slight Risk extending from Oklahoma to the southern Appalachians. An additional 4-8 inches of rain, locally higher, is expected along the central Gulf Coast through Saturday with about 2-4 inches from the Lower Mississippi Valley into the southern Appalachians. Farther north, thunderstorms with severe potential will be found across portions of the Midwest this evening to the south of a slow moving cold front along with portions of the Mid-Atlantic region. The cold front will reach the Ohio Valley Thursday morning which will shift the threat for thunderstorms south, but the main severe threats will focus from portions of southern/eastern Texas to the central Gulf Coast along with northern Utah into central Montana ahead of a strong Pacific cold front. The Pacific front will reach central Montana to northern Nevada by Thursday evening with significantly colder temperatures in its wake. In fact, many locations across Washington and Oregon will only see highs in the 50s and 60s on Thursday (nearly 20 degrees below average) with the cooler temperatures moving east into Idaho, northern Nevada and portions of central and western Montana for Friday.
