Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 128 PM EDT Thu Jun 13 2019 Valid 00Z Fri Jun 14 2019 - 00Z Sun Jun 16 2019 ...Severe thunderstorms possible for portions of the southern and central High Plains through Friday... ...Above average temperatures expected to continue for portions of the Western U.S... ...Rain ending tonight for much of the eastern U.S. with below average temperatures persisting into Friday... A low pressure system is forecast to move northeastward along the New England coastline tonight. Widespread rain associated with the system will come to an end across most of the Northeast by Friday morning as the system begins to move away from the region, although scattered light showers may persist into the day Friday as a strong upper-level disturbance passes overhead. The southern portion of this frontal boundary will bring scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms to much of the Florida Peninsula through Friday. In the wake of the low pressure system, a cool air mass will persist across the eastern U.S. into Friday, with high temperatures expected to be 5 to 15 degrees below average across a large area. These temperatures should moderate by the weekend as surface high pressure overspreads the region. The trailing portion of the boundary, extending west into the southern Plains, along with the arrival of additional upper-level disturbances, will provide some focus for areas of showers and thunderstorms across the central U.S. through Saturday. Some storms could become severe. Meanwhile, another upper-level disturbance and associated surface frontal system will spread showers and thunderstorms across portion of the Upper Midwest and Upper Great Lakes on Friday into Saturday. Across the West, a weak cold front will bring a slight reduction to the hot temperatures seen recently, however highs are forecast to remain 5 to 15 degrees above average across areas from the Pacific Northwest to the Great Basin into the weekend. The cold front will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to much of the interior western U.S. Fri into Sat, with the most widespread precipitation expected at higher elevations.
