A cold front will track through the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys on Monday and into the Eastern Seaboard on Tuesday. Scattered thunderstorms are expected along and ahead of this front. On Monday, a Slight Risk of severe weather is in place for parts of the Upper Great Lakes region southward into the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys and the Central/Southern Appalachians. Moderate to heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding are also possible for much of the central and eastern U.S. with these storms. Showers and thunderstorms will move into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Monday night and Tuesday. Severe thunderstorms are also possible on Tuesday in the Middle Mississippi Valley ahead of another cold front. As moisture continues to flow into the Southern Plains eastward into the Southeast, scattered summertime thunderstorms are possible there on Monday and Tuesday. Heavy rainfall is expected to focus in southern Texas on Monday, so a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall/flash flooding is outlooked there. Additionally, severe thunderstorms are possible ahead of a dryline in parts of Texas on Monday. The Central Gulf Coast into Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas will be hot over the next couple of days, with highs in the 90s and heat indices in the 100s. Nighttime temperatures will remain warm, and record high minimum temperatures could be set on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Meanwhile, cooler than average temperatures are forecast behind the cold front, with high temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below average expected in the Northern/Central Rockies on Monday with lesser departures from normal in much of the Plains and Mississippi Valley.
