Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 208 PM EDT Thu Jun 27 2019 Valid 00Z Fri Jun 28 2019 - 00Z Sun Jun 30 2019 ...Thunderstorms, some containing severe weather and leading to flash flooding, are forecast across the northern U.S. into the weekend... ...An enhanced fire weather threat lingers across the Southwest into Friday... The weather pattern into this weekend consists of an upper-level low that will persist over the Pacific Northwest, while a slow-moving frontal boundary at the surface remains stretched across the northern tier of the country and the Great Basin. Near the front in the Great Basin, elevated fire weather conditions are forecast for portions of Utah, southern Nevada, and northern Arizona through Friday due to expected low relative humidities and breezy conditions. Where moisture is more effectively pooling, showers and thunderstorms are expected to form and focus along and near the stationary front in the northern tier of the country. The severe weather and isolated flash flood threats could continue through Saturday for the Northern High Plains. The aforementioned upper low in the Pacific Northwest will continue cool conditions most centered over northern California and much of Oregon through the remainder of the week. The highest elevations of the Cascades could see some snow. Meanwhile, summer heat will prevail from the Continental Divide eastward, with high temperatures reaching the 90s as far north as the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest by Friday. The southern tier of the country from the Southern High Plains to the Southeast could see scattered summertime thunderstorms, and a few strong storms containing locally heavy rainfall are possible in the Lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys on Thursday.
