Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 254 AM EDT Fri Jun 28 2019 Valid 12Z Fri Jun 28 2019 - 12Z Sun Jun 30 2019 ...Severe weather possible across parts of the Northern Plains and the Northeast... ...Much above normal temperatures to continue from the Plains to the Upper Midwest... ...Elevated fire weather threat across parts of the Great Basin and Four Corners region... A cold front moving slowly across the Northern Plains during the short range will be the focus for locally heavy rainfall and the potential for severe thunderstorms. SPC has parts of eastern Montana to North Dakota in a slight risk for severe weather on Friday, shifting eastward into the Upper Mississippi Valley on Saturday. To the east, a frontal boundary will focus scattered showers and storms from the Midwest to the Northeast. Convection firing ahead of an approaching cold front in the Northeast on Saturday could contain severe weather and SPC has highlighted locations from northeast Pennsylvania to southern New England within a slight risk. Elsewhere, scattered daily summertime storms are possible across parts of the Southern tier from the Southern Plains to the Southeast which should also keep temperatures near average for this time of the year. An upper level low pressure system across the Northwest U.S. will keep temperatures mostly below normal the next couple of days, with generally unsettled showery conditions. Gusty winds and low humidity values will also keep fire weather threats elevated across parts of the central Great Basin to the Four Corners. Meanwhile, the hot spot in the nation will be from the Central/Northern Plains to the Upper Midwest where daytime highs reaching into the 90s, to near 100F in some places, are 10 to 20 degrees above normal.
